Introduction : Why this Camper Automobile ?

 Reaching 70 in good shape I found myself on the lookout for a "last adventure".

After flying as military, bush pilot in Africa, airline and corporate, I went sailing aboard my 3 sailing boats.

Also some trips in the Sahara desert...

My last career was in South America creating technified farms and aquaculture.

With this Camper Automobile I intend to visit ex-customers and friends on my way to Panama and Mexico and to push north along the Pacific coast.

The primary interest was to conceive and build this light vehicle, barely motorized.

The second objective, having mediterranean roots, is to discover seafood cuisine along more than 12 000 km of Pacific coastline.

This Camper Automobile technical sheet : 

  • Base is one walkable 1.5 mm Aluminium working sheet 4X8 feet.  With 1.5", 2 mm thick angle and square tubing 20 X 40 mm. Secondary structure is 3/4 ", 2 mm thick angle.
  • "Carrosserie" is from one good quality 4mm polycarbonate sheet.
  • Interior compartments from 8 mm plywood.
  • Accomodation is for 2, 1.20 X 1.9 bed, large closet and sumptuous galley.
  • Machinery is 1/2 meter on the proa, it's driver's seat and eventuals passenger's. 
  • It's a tricycle configuration with a 168F gasoline engine, abruptly derated down to 2500w. Rear wheels are independent with twin suspension.
  • Two manual gears, the "high" one to give the 30 mph speed limit and the low one to climb the Andes mountains if I ever come back. Design max speed is 60 km/h.
  • One hydraulic disc brake 22 cm on the main driving axle.
  • One 1.2 kw generator and a 1400w electric winch. 50 Amps battery. All lightings are LEDs.
  • Calculated MTOW is less than 250 kg.
